workshops

Workshops are a great way to go over areas of your practice that need work and see details that may go unnoticed or be misunderstood in general yoga classes. Workshops can be based on a particular theme such as back bends, shoulder stability or inversions but are also based on the needs of the group, identifying specific areas that can be focussed on from what comes up and questions asked so it becomes a more interactive way of teaching and learning.

The ❤ of backbends

Back bends are often both feared and revered. As a result the tendency may be to rush through them causing unnecessary pain and which can lead to injury. During this workshop you'll learn how to prepare the lower body so that the upper body can release. How to articulate, open and release each vertebrae of the spine through therapeutic techniques to aid the traditional backbending series during the traditional Ashtanga practice. Creating a safer and more enjoyable back bending practice. Evolving into one that may gently open the heart over time and is sustainable.

The Art of Inversions

The concept of turning the body upside down can be exhilarating and fear inducing at the same time. When inversions are done well they can be incredibly detoxifying for the body and can invoke a razor sharp focus of the mind. During this workshop you'll learn how to perform and prepare for inversions safely using technique and trust to ensure a comfortable inversion practice. The time spent will enable the inversions to be held for longer more effortlessly and with more internal strength and stability and therefore allow for the deeper dimensions of an inversion practice to unfold

Stability of the shoulders

Much of the Ashtanga practice relies on building and sustaining stability of the shoulders ~ once there, it will be something to rely upon for years to come. If stability has not been established it can be the reason for many difficulties with so many postures that require upper body strength. True stability is built gradually, like a house that has strong foundations it will never fall down. Throughout the workshop you will build some important foundations on which to build strength gradually going over the postures that require shoulder stability and building up each posture from the more basic to more advanced as the workshop goes on
