books

Books can enhance your yoga journey by sharing wisdom from those who have practiced before. Inspiring questions and sometimes offering answers to those questions. Books can help clarify the reasons to practice and explain techniques and theories and Yoga’s deeper dimensions and history. Revealing others' mistakes, helps to avoid similar pitfalls on your own path. Understanding different journeys may inspire your own

I’d like to share with you some books which have helped me immensely, to be honest, initially these were not the traditional and more ‘sacred’ texts of yoga, as I found the language too difficult to relate to at first and plenty of references to these books can be found online. They have also not been exclusively related to Ashtanga as inspiration can come from many sources.

The Eight Human Talents ~ Gurmukh

The Inner Tradition of Yoga ~ Michael Stone

Ashtanga Yoga: Practice and Philosophy ~ Gregor Maehle

Ashtanga Yoga - The Practice Manual ~ David Swenson

Ashtanga Yoga As It Is ~ Matthew Sweeney

The Mirror of Yoga: Awakening the Intelligence of Body and Mind ~ Richard Freeman

Guruji: A Portrait of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois Through the Eyes of His Students ~ Guy Donahaye & Eddie Stern
